I haven’t posted to this blog in well over a year.

And honestly I wasn’t really sure if I should come back.

But I always kept track of the visitors to this blog…and boy am I impressed.

Over the past year this little blog continued to get vistors on a steady basis.

While working on my other blogs I decided that I should go back to my roots.

And here I am.

Armed with even more deadly marketing tactics, tools and tips.

I’ll be giving you the heads up on what’s working online and what’s not.

However, I must let you in on something first.

I’m doing this with a thought in mind.

That thought is  in giving you useful information I ‘d like for you to visit my other projects.

There’s nothing for you to buy….yet (wink)

Just information for you to feed on.

You won’t be dis-appointed.

I didn’t really have a clue as to how I would make it grow bigger.

All I knew is that everyone that I talked to said that I needed to have a list so I did just that.

But instead of building my list through content..I did the unthinkable.

Yes..I purchased my list.

Thinking that was the fastest way to success…

When in reality it was the slowest and most expensive way to creating a list.

What I didn’t really know and understand back then was how important it was to have a list of people who wanted what you had to offer and not just having the ability to buy their name off of a list and make them offers.

But I was young and wet behind the ears.

I know how to do things much differently now of ccourse.

However..I realize that some of you out there still don’t have a clue as to how to get over the hump and reach success.

What I’m about to offer you here is something that I wish I had been offered back when I was starting to build not only my list..but my business as well.

And that is..a success coach.

Do not..and I mean it..

Do not harass your subscribers.

Hounding them with offers is the surest way to get them to unsubscribe.

Everyday I’m hounded with offers from opt in lists that I’ve subscribed to.

And there are generally 2 reasons why I will subscribe to a list.

1. Research

2. Usable info

Notice that bombarding me with offers was not one of the reasons.

As a marketer myself..I realize that at some point an offer will be made.

That just comes with the territory.

But to make it a point to have more offers coming in then useful info..

That’s a turns off.

However..in case our wondering if this task that I’m going to show you how to do really works..

Then check ou a few of the bullets that I wrote using what your about to learn in the next few minutes.

These bullets were for a headline writing course that someone I knew was selling.

So he asked me to help him move more copies because his current selling methods weren’t working.

If they were on the phone..and they browsed across your headline..then they’d stop immediately to read it.

If they were busy working online..And one of your headlines popped into their email box..they’d read yours first before anyone else’s…even if the other emails are from people they were expecting to hear from.

If you’ve sent them email before and they never opened them..they sure would open them now. They’d have to…This simple quirk in their human nature won’t let them not open it..

Pay attention to what I just said.

Why?

Because I said that it was simple..but notice what –> I didn’t say.

What I didn’t say was that it was easy.

Simple and easy.

There is a difference between the two you know.

I know that you normally hear these two words grouped together quite often…

But understanding the difference between the two is important.

Lets move on.

When you have a system in place for building your email list… over time you will start to see more consistancy in the number of new subscribers trickling in everyday.

And that builds momentum…

And momentum breeds confidence..

And so on and so on…

But most people don’t have any kind of system for building a steady flow of new subscribers.

What they like to do is to jump from product after product.

Any product that promises to be the latest and greatest is usually what they will flock to.

But having the newest or latest product won’t usually build you a bigger list.

It’s having a system in place that sorts and subscribes new people to your list that will make you a jedi list master.

When your system is working right…you’ll see new subscribers coming in on a regular basis.

But one slight word of warning though.

When you start getting new subscribers on a regular basis..you’ll need to hold back on the offers.

That is..

Unless you tell them that they will be getting hit with offers right up front..then you’ll just be giving them a reason to unsubscribe.

And gosh that sucks..

But it’s part of what we do as list builders.

But first a little more info on this magic word..

This little word is really one of the most underated words used today when it comes to building your opt in list.

Take for instance this past saturday.

On what is usually a slow day for me when it comes to subscribers…

I actually picked up 37 more subscribers to my email list than I did compared to the previous saturday.

Why is that good?

It’s because I used the same writing style in both messages..

I used the same short content packed email…

But with one different result..

more subscribers…

Well..if your tired of me talking about my experience with this little soldier..and you’re ready to start turning you past failures into successes..

The let me reveal to you…

Drum roll please…..

The magic word that you should make as part of your regular vocabulary is..

T-E-S-T

Yep…

I tested one headline versus another and picked 37 more subscribers that I did for the previous week.

It’ didn’t cost me a single penny to do that.

I didn’t have to be any kind of expert or anything..

The price I paid was in time….

Everything else was the same.

I only created 2 versions of a headline and saw a big difference.

So if you want a quick and easy way to start adding more subscribers to your email list…

Then focus on testing your headlines.

Look at the open rates when you structure a headline a certain way as compared to another structure.

The result will be surprising.

One of the ways you can increase your new subscriber rates is by the use of language…

I know that doesn’t sound like anything exciting…

But the language I’m talking about here is your own language that you’ve developed.

When you can clearly identify a problem that your audience is having and put a name to it…you’ll get their attention.

We’re hard wired to put labels on anything we don’t understand.

So when you have a problem…and there isn’t a clear label or name for it..then confusion and frustration will occur.

However..when you put a name to it..

That’s when you get that ah ha moment…

Clarification….

That “Oh..so that’s what that is” phrase.

The name should be something that they haven’t heard before of course.

For instance…

I was reading an article the other day from Howard Kaplan about Victorias Secret…

And he used a phrase that caught my attention.

In my mind it clearly explained why people go from first seeing your ad on a search engine or portal to landing on your website.

I knew that this was the process that people went through to get to the site they wanted…

But having a name attached to it gave me that ah ha moment I was looking for.

So think about the language that you use.

How can you make it more intriguing?

I can’t begin to tell you how many times that I’ve used the power of a story to persuade or influence another persons decision.

It’s one of the few skills that I think should be mandatory for everyone to learn how to do.

Imagine receiving a letter from them and it’s telling you that in a nut shell that you are no longer welcome as their customer because you called with too many questions about how to actually get what you paid for.

That’s amazing.

When you make a claim to people and then money is traded for your having done so…

Then your customer will expect you to deliver on what you promised.

So you see..

You should never make promises to your subscribers that your product or service can’t keep.

Make your promises on the low end.

By that I mean…

Make your promises in a way that if everything went totally wrong..that this is something that they could still expect to receive.

Look at amazon.com.

When you buy a book from them they give you an estimated delivery date.

But what usually happens is that the book you ordered comes before the expected date.

You thought the book would be here on saturday and it comes on thursday.

They have now exceeded your expectations…

And the rest is history.
