When Creating Subjectlines For Your Opt In List Goes Wrong…

Posted on March 30, 2007. Filed under: Opt in email marketing |

Here’s a very popular headline that has been around for ages…

It single handedly is responsible for generating millions of dollars in book sales.

Write it down.

And when you are in need for a good headline..just fill it with information that fits what you are offering.

Here it is…

“How To Win Friends And Influence People”

Like I said… just create a simple template from this successful headline by taking out the words “win friends” along with “influence people.”

Your final template should look like this.

“How To____And_____”

Wouldn’t you like to sit down at your computer and hammer out headlines like the one you just read all the time?

Well listen up…

What I have just given you is one of the worst examples of how to create headlines that grab attention.

Let me explain.

Do you know why the headline “How To Win Friends And Influence People” was so successful?

It was because it spoke directly to it’s target markets desires.

The desire to be liked by our peers is a big motivator.

But another reason why this headline worked so well was because the writer was aware of his target markets specific desire and communicated it to them in simple to understand language. The desire that people wanted but would never come out directly and admit. There was research that went into creating this headline to fit the market.

So for you to just come along with pen and paper in hand and copy it and slap it on your messages is useless.

You need a market match.

Meaning…your headline should match what your market is currently thinking.

Your headline should match your markets current level of awareness.

Your headline should match your markets current level of sophistication

And the only way you can do that is buy doing the grunt work.

You have to research your markets wants, needs and desires to create powerful headlines that are capable of breaking sales records.

When you see people selling these headline creator tools that promise you the ability to create killer headlines in minutes.

You better grab your wallet and run.

These programs are only using templates of successful headlines from the past to spit out new twisted versions for you.

Listen, you’re smart…you pay your bills on time, you’re a law abiding citizen…you use good judgement everyday with our peers and family members.

Then answer me this.

Why on earth would you not use that same kind of judgement when it comes to creating your headlines?

C’ can do better than that.

I sit at my computer sometimes for just a few minutes..and sometimes hours agonizing over trying to create a good headline.

Yup…one stinking headline can take hours and on some occasions days to come up with.

They never come easy.

But I stick with it.

I usually have all of my research information right there in front of me.

The ones that usually come pretty quick deal with markets that I’ve written for before. So my mind is primed already.

So does that mean you should never use swipe files?

No…they have their place.

The only time I would suggest you use a swipe file is when you lack inspiration.

Reading other headlines can then spark new ideas. New angles. But you should never just swap out words to create a headline for your messages.

The take home message of the day is this.

Put this up somewhere and read it once a day.

A headlines past performance is not an indicator of future results.

Enough said…

I sincerely hope that you are taking what you are learning here and applying it in the real world.

I really am interested in you becoming successful at creating opt in lists that you can profit from.

That’s my mission.

That’s all for now.

Change Your Sales Message And You Change Your Income

Posted on March 29, 2007. Filed under: Opt in email marketing |

What results are you looking for when you send out your standard email message to your list.

Hopefully your answer isn’t a sale.

Shame on you if it is.

Email messages that you load into your autoresponders shouldn’t sell a thing.

How come?

Because your readers are bombarded all day long with sales messages…and the last thing they want to do is put their name on another list (yours) to receive another canned offer.

So if your email messages aren’t supposed to sell anything – than what are they supposed to do?

Ahhhh…glad you asked…

Here’s your moment of enlightenment

–>The purpose of your email message is to inform <—

To Market…but not sell

To expose…but not sell

To point..but not sell

The pepsi ads that you see on t.v.

Do they sell?

The McDonalds ads that you see on t.v….do they sell?

Do they say “go down to the store and buy some of our products?”

No silly…they market.

They remind you that when you get thirsty try a pepsi.

They remind you that when you get hungry…grab a quarter pounder…

Nope…the commercials don’t sell.

The corner store down from your house sells.

The McDonalds down the street from your job sells.

Your website sells.

Meanwhile your autoresponder messages market.

They show your readers that you know what you are talking about.

And then if your readers decide that they want more they stroll off to your website.

That’s where you, the marketing genius have planted your can’t miss sales pitch.

That’s much easier on your readers.

Because after they are sold on you and they scramble over to your website they expect to receive a sales message.

Now they’re much more likely to read what your salesletter has to say.

It’s when they aren’t expecting a sales pitch and they get one that turns them off to you and their sales pitch radar comes racing up..

Now any attempt to make a sale under those kind of conditions is useless.

It’s simply click…I’m outta here.

Your job is to become the Anti-Salesman.

There’s a place for your sales pitch…it’s just not in your email messages.

Now, that being doesn’t mean that you can’t make an offer to your readers at all.

“What, but you just said that you shouldn’t try to sell your readers anything in your autoresponder messages”

And that’s true….

But you can send them a seperate broadcast message.

A broadcast message that isn’t included in the series of preloaded messages that you have placed in your autoresponder.

However you should make sure that your message is a quick read and to the point if you want to have success with them..

Well I’d like to continue on..but my brain power has just taken a hit.

Need to recharge..

That’s all for now.

Headlines That Score A Hit With Your Opt In List Subscribers Only Happen When You Know How To Throw A Good Pitch

Posted on March 29, 2007. Filed under: Opt in email marketing |

Are you ready for another dose of opt in list building?

Of course you are right?

So lets get down to business.

One of the keys to getting new subscribers to join your list is have an attention grabbing headline.

Because if you can’t get your potential subscribers attention…then I can guarantee you that you will never get them to subscribe.

But getting peoples attention in todays “got to have it now and not later” society isn’t easy.

Dare I say that it’s sometimes a tough nut to crack.

Not to mention all of the swami guru products that you see promising you how to create killer headlines in just minutes…

Don’t believe it.

The art of creating attention grabbing headlines has to be practiced.

It has to be studied.

You have to become a student of headlines to eventually become a headline jedi master..

I’m not even close to that level yet, but you best believe that I’ve got a large war chest of headlines that I study religiously.

Everyday I feed my brain a small prescribed dose of headlines.

Prevention magazine here…

Cosmopolitan there…

and a little muscle and fitness to cap off the night.

—–Huge Tip——-

Study the magazines that you see on the magazine racks when you’re standing in the check out line of grocery stores.

These headlines are created by some of the highest paid copywriters in the industry.

And guess what part of their job is?

Bingo…you guessed it.

They have to get your attention.

But not only that..they have to push your buttons in such a way that reading further becomes your next goal. And that leads to the purchase.

I read some of everything.

Womens magazines (they routinely outsell mens mags and contain more emotional words) , men’s magazines, best sellers…you name it.

The reason I do that is because I’m looking for how the writer uses his words to communicate his message.

Because that’s how I’m looking to communicate with my readers…through words.

And you need to understand that all of the words in the english language pack an emotional punch.

Some words punch is more powerful than others…but they all have emotions tied to them in some way.

So creating an attention grabbing headline becomes a task of putting the right string of emotionally charged words that will communicate your message best to your readers.

Read that part again. Put it on a post it note if you have to.

Here’s an idea for you to chew on.

Give this message to your best buddy.

“Hey Mike, how ya doing, did you catch that lakers game last night…Kobe rocked..he scored 52 points..anyways…gotta go take the kids out for’s a free lesson that will do you some good…it’s on the house..”

So your job…

Your mission becomes to study what headlines grab your attention and the attention of the masses.

Following in the sage advice from Jay Abraham…don’t just look at your particular niche for headlines. Look everywhere you can lay two eyes.

Look at the verbs they use.

What visual picture does the verb communicate?

Note: The verbs you’re looking for are action verbs.

Your headline for your messages should communicate with your subscribers on a conscious and subconscious level.

By the way…the reason you want to communicate on a subconscious level is because the subconscious mind works like a slave. (see there’s an emotionally charged word right there) See, while the readers conscious mind is busy filtering out the things that it see’s as relevant or irrelevant in your headline…the subconscious mind receives another message indirectly. And will decide to act or not act…There is no teetering back and forth with the subconscious. It’s simply “Yes sir boss, Or no sir boss”

The conscious mind acts as the police for your mind. It job is to serve and protect. While the job of your subconscious is just to serve.

Whew…I’m getting of track here so let me wrap things up.

So the lesson here is that emotions are king.

Study how other people use emotional words in their headlines to communicate with their audience.

Notice the effect that the words have on you. How do you feel after reading them?

Rewrite them.

Create a swipe file of the more common words hat you see repeated over and over. There’s reason why writers choose to use them again and again.

Try them out in your messages.

And keep at it.

Pretty soon you’ll become a headline jedi master…

That’s all for now.

Opt In List Magic…Watch Me As I Let The Cat Out Of The Bag

Posted on March 28, 2007. Filed under: Opt in email marketing |

What your about to read is so important and so special that I can’t even gurantee how long I will let it stay posted here.

I want to help you as much as I can to build your first huge opt in list.

I want you to experience what it’s like to send out a message and shortly there after sales start trickling in.

But realistically…it takes time to get to that point.

And it takes patience…

But it can be done.

Here’s a question that you can easily answer for me.

Do you even have 200 people on your opt in list that you can email messages to on a regular basis?

You do?

Good…because I’m going to show you a way to double that number of subscribers.

“Yes…add another 200 to the list Jeeves.”

But first….

Let’s check your personal prescription for wealth.

You write informal articles and submit them to web directories right?

You provide valuable information for your loyal readers right?

Your blog is dripping with quality content your readers can use on their personal websites to give away to their readers right? (Hint: You can use my content until you have created your own)

Now add this little formula to what your currently doing and post a comment here on my blog if it doesn’t make you a “list building rock star.”

Here it is so take note.

—>Promise big..and deliver bigger…<—

Simple isn’t it?

The formula for doubling your opt in list subscribers was sitting under your nose all the time.

I didn’t invent this stuff…because nothing is really new…I just tapped into the wealth mines to get my share.

Just like Caesar

Just Like Napoleon did…

Just Like Trump did…

Just like you did…or will be doing.

However, this isn’t the same as under promise and over deliver.

What you’re doing here is taking your standard promise and multiplying it times 3…

And once you deliver on that promise you add bonuses that are so valuble by themselves that the person receiving them is overjoyed that you would give them away for free. They should solve a logical problem that your reader was having but didn’t realize that there was a solution for it.

I recently joined a mailing list that offered a free report for subscribing…nothing new there right?

But when I joined I received 4 audio’s of him solving a problem that I was also experiencing but never new a solution existed.

I received 4 video’s on closely related topics

I received not 1 but 3 – 180 page ebooks. All written by him

And I received an advanced copy of his new ebook that he plans to come out with.

No..that’s WOW squared….

But wait…there’s more…

I also received the right’s to future updates to the ebooks for free.

talk about delivering more than I expected…geesh

Needless to say I was more than happy to be on his list.

Do you think you can do that?

Deliver 3 times as much value than what was expected?

—Hot Tip——–

Lead with value and you will have subscribers willing to crawl over broken glass to join your list.

That’s all for now.

People Who Hide Behind Little Automated Machines Don’t Build Large Responsive Opt In Lists…

Posted on March 28, 2007. Filed under: Opt in email marketing |

Did you know that you can increase your subscriber rate just by having a little P.E.R.S.O.N.A.L.I.T.Y.

Yup, it’s true.

When you show people that you are someone that stands for something…

—–>Think Howard Stern

—–>Think Rush Limbaugh

—–>Think Bill O’Reilly

People who think along those same lines but are too scared to reveal their true personality will be drawn to you like flies to fly paper if you say and do what they want to but can’t..

How come?

It go’s back to your childhood.

Mommy and daddy taught you to obey the rules, do what you were told, and don’t question authority.

There’s nothing like a parents love for their child…

But in this case they screwed you…They didn’t mean to though..So don’t go bashing them and telling them I said you could do so.

And yet..

With that type of program running your mind it taught you to hold back your true feelings.

“Don’t want to stir up a hornets nest Susie, so I’ll just keep my mouth shut.”

“I don’t want Tom to be mad at me, so I better not say anything.”

—Quick Tip—-

When someone comes along and says something that goes against what you were taught but have always felt, then and interest is born. We are emotional creatures first and foremost before logic kicks in and takes over.

Want to know why people like Howard Stern and Big Boy Rush Limbaugh get paid the big bucks?

It’s because they exude confidence.

They don’t fear backlash.

Deep down everybody would like to have a high confidence level to just say what they were feeling and not have to worry about society getting upset. And people are drawn to that.

Can you say high ratings?

Perfectionism Leading to paralysis…

—You’re trying to be the right person

—You’re trying to do the right things

—You’re trying to make the right choices..

That has all the makings of a perfect person, right?

Which doesn’t exist by the way…

But when you expose who you really are to people they begin to let their guards down.

“Hey, Keir lost a bundle in he stock market too..just like I did…I wonder how’s he handling it.”

So the take home message of the day is this.

Don’t be affraid to show your true personality to your opt in list readers.

I had a reader tell me that in one of my blogs that I used curse words. And that they would never do that in their blog.

I said that’s fine for you..but not for me.

If I’m feeling kind of edgy today..then I don’t hide it.

By the way hiding your feelings is not good for you either. In your email messages you should show who you really are. Let your subscribers relate to you.

But don’t get all mushy on them..because nobody likes being around a baby…

If your an asshole..then so be it…

If your a mr. mom type …then so be it…

If your a kind, warm hearted, caring be it.

Your readers will respect you more for it in the long run.

With me you know that it’s always WYSIWYG

(for those of you who don’t know what that means it’s what you see is what you get)

That’s all for now.

The Biggest Opt In List Building Secret I Could Ever Give You Is Here…

Posted on March 27, 2007. Filed under: Opt in email marketing |

The power of secrets.

The ability to say, I know something that you don’t know” can be enough to overcome a persons doubts about joining your list.

“I know how to write email subject lines that people want to open…do you”

“I can sit down at a table with a simple pencil and a piece of paper and create a salesletter that will double your sales, regardless of whatever industry you’re in..and it will only take me less than 1 hour to do so”

When you know how to use them in your opt in email marketing..then the chances that your campaigns will be a hit automatically double.

But just like anything worth having, their is a downside to having a secret.

The secret will only work it’s magic so long as it’s relevant.

I know..that seems obvious. But it’s not always followed.

If it’s not relevant…then no secret in the world will be able to overcome a lack of interest.

The idea for you to take home from this message is this.

For whatever topic your list is based have to find something about it that know one else knows. Then you have to show your readers the benefit of having this secret.

Put them in situations where this secret will save them from the problems they are having.

Not the problems that they might face.

Because the pain of the current problem will be much more stronger and will create a greater sense of urgency to get rid of it then will a problem they might face 2 or 3 months from now.

You can use future pacing..but this is not one of those instances…

So you’ve been given an idea to work with…now go and find your big secret and communicate that to your list.

That’s all for now.

Posted on March 26, 2007. Filed under: Opt in email marketing |

That is…

You find what works either by your own experience or using someone else’s..and you continue to do more of what works and less of what doesn’t.

quick question…

How many times do you visit this blog?

Just by visiting here on a regular basis….you’re establishing part of your routine 🙂

Simple…ain’t it.

Having A Dead Opt In List Is Bad For Business….

Posted on March 25, 2007. Filed under: Opt in email marketing |

What’s wrong with your opt in list?

You’ve sent them offer after offer and no one has responded.

How come?

One of the reasons might be because you have the wrong target audience.

The product that you offer should be the perfect match for the problem your opt in list subscribers are looking to solve.

When they read the description of what problem your product solves…a light should be going off inside their head.

They should be saying, “that’s it…thats exactly what I’m looking for.”

However…too many people build their list and think that just because they have a group of names that they can market to that they will buy anything.

That’s the furthest thing from the truth.

Having a opt in email list doesn’t gurantee you any type of sales.

You create the right atmosphere that can produce a sale by delivering useful content.

Thus, over time you establish trust and only then can the sale be made.

That’s all for now.
