How to Build a Strong Opt In List

Posted on December 14, 2008. Filed under: Lead generating campaign, Opt in email marketing |

Start with a strong opt-in offer containing truly useful free information that’s relevant to your visitors. Then, over time, continue to send your opt-in list even more free information.

The more you can prove to your subscribers that you’re a reliable source of useful information… the more you can train them to look forward to hearing from you … the more successful you’ll be.

Not only will you build a rapport with your subscribers, you’ll establish yourself as an expert in your field, making it easy for you to recommend your products.…

The One Thing You Need To Know About Building Your Opt In List

Posted on July 25, 2007. Filed under: Opt in email marketing |

Do not..and I mean it..

Do not harass your subscribers.

Hounding them with offers is the surest way to get them to unsubscribe.

Everyday I’m hounded with offers from opt in lists that I’ve subscribed to.

And there are generally 2 reasons why I will subscribe to a list.

1. Research

2. Usable info

Notice that bombarding me with offers was not one of the reasons.

As a marketer myself..I realize that at some point an offer will be made.

That just comes with the territory.

But to make it a point to have more offers coming in then useful info..

That’s a turns off.

That’s all for now.

What Does This Simple 6 Letter Word Have To Do With Your Succcess Or Failure In Building Your Email Subscriber List #195

Posted on July 20, 2007. Filed under: Opt in email marketing |

Adding 5 -15 -100 new subscribers to your list is really simple when you know what you’re doing.

Pay attention to what I just said.

Because I said that it was simple..but notice what –> I didn’t say.

What I didn’t say was that it was easy.

Simple and easy.

There is a difference between the two you know.

I know that you normally hear these two words grouped together quite often…

But understanding the difference between the two is important.

Lets move on.

When you have a system in place for building your email list… over time you will start to see more consistancy in the number of new subscribers trickling in everyday.

And that builds momentum…

And momentum breeds confidence..

And so on and so on…

But most people don’t have any kind of system for building a steady flow of new subscribers.

What they like to do is to jump from product after product.

Any product that promises to be the latest and greatest is usually what they will flock to.

But having the newest or latest product won’t usually build you a bigger list.

It’s having a system in place that sorts and subscribes new people to your list that will make you a jedi list master.

When your system is working right…you’ll see new subscribers coming in on a regular basis.

But one slight word of warning though.

When you start getting new subscribers on a regular basis..you’ll need to hold back on the offers.

That is..

Unless you tell them that they will be getting hit with offers right up front..then you’ll just be giving them a reason to unsubscribe.

And gosh that sucks..

But it’s part of what we do as list builders.

That’s all for now.

A Hot Tip For Anyone Looking To Build Their Opt In List With Subscribers Who Stick Around # 193

Posted on July 16, 2007. Filed under: Opt in email marketing |

Here’s a quick tip for all of you opt in list builders out there…

One of the ways you can increase your new subscriber rates is by the use of language…

I know that doesn’t sound like anything exciting…

But the language I’m talking about here is your own language that you’ve developed.

When you can clearly identify a problem that your audience is having and put a name to it…you’ll get their attention.

We’re hard wired to put labels on anything we don’t understand.

So when you have a problem…and there isn’t a clear label or name for it..then confusion and frustration will occur.

However..when you put a name to it..

That’s when you get that ah ha moment…

That “Oh..so that’s what that is” phrase.

The name should be something that they haven’t heard before of course.

For instance…

I was reading an article the other day from Howard Kaplan about Victorias Secret

And he used a phrase that caught my attention.

In my mind it clearly explained why people go from first seeing your ad on a search engine or portal to landing on your website.

I knew that this was the process that people went through to get to the site they wanted…

But having a name attached to it gave me that ah ha moment I was looking for.

So think about the language that you use.

How can you make it more intriguing?

That’s all for now.

The One Truth About Opt In List Building Is That You Need To Learn How To Tell Good…. #192

Posted on July 12, 2007. Filed under: Opt in email marketing |

I’ve wrote about them before here at opt in list secrets.

And from time to time I will still post information about how to use them in your marketing efforts.

That brings us to today.

I read a really good post from Brian Clark over at copyblogger about the use of stories.

I can’t begin to tell you how many times that I’ve used the power of a story to persuade or influence another persons decision.

It’s one of the few skills that I think should be mandatory for everyone to learn how to do.

That’s all for now.

What Can A Multi-Million Dollar Cellphone Company Teach You About Building Your Opt In LIst

Posted on July 10, 2007. Filed under: Opt in email marketing |

The next time one of your subscribers contacts you with questions about a product or service that they’ve purchased from you.

Then answer them to the best of your ability.

And if they have more questions…then continue to those as well..

In fact I would recommend that you go above and beyond what’s expected of you.

And in case you were wondering why you should do that..

Then you can find your answer in the latest fiasco over a Sprint.

Imagine receiving a letter from them and it’s telling you that in a nut shell that you are no longer welcome as their customer because you called with too many questions about how to actually get what you paid for.

That’s amazing.

When you make a claim to people and then money is traded for your having done so…

Then your customer will expect you to deliver on what you promised.

So you see..

You should never make promises to your subscribers that your product or service can’t keep.

Make your promises on the low end.

By that I mean…

Make your promises in a way that if everything went totally wrong..that this is something that they could still expect to receive.

Look at amazon.com.

When you buy a book from them they give you an estimated delivery date.

But what usually happens is that the book you ordered comes before the expected date.

You thought the book would be here on saturday and it comes on thursday.

They have now exceeded your expectations…

And the rest is history.

That’s all for now.

You’ve Sent Your Opt In List The Message… But Did It Hit Home (part 2)

Posted on July 2, 2007. Filed under: Opt in email marketing |

Okay..in part one I showed you an example of a email message that was sent to me by one of the leaders in the information marketing arena.

Bottom line secrets.

So now I want to go over one of the main reasons why this email is so successful.

Right off the back..

They challenge your beliefs.

What you’ve been told all of your life is now in question.

The authority figures in your life, the doctors, your parents, could they have been wrong.

What this does is it triggers your curiosity.

Could there actually be an easy and simple solution to the problem that I’ve been having all along.

After hitting you with a number of these bullets..you atually become fascinated at the possibilities.

And that’s what they wanted you to do.

Because your curiosity builds to the point that satisfying it becomes your number one goal.

You need to relieve the anxiety of not knowing the truth.

That’s pretty powerful stuff there.

They were actually called fascinations by famed copywriter Eugene Schwartz.

And another thing you need to be aware of..

Is their use of giving you the page numbers where you can find these solutions.

On page so and so you’ll find this.

And on page so and so you’ll find this also.

I hope you paid attention here.

Re-read it again if you have to.

That’s all for now.

You’ve Sent Your Opt In List The Message… But Did It Hit Home (part 1)

Posted on June 30, 2007. Filed under: Opt in email marketing |

Back when I was just a copy cub..

I wanted to know how I could use email to sell products.

Because although I was learning the secrets to becoming a copywriter..

The course didn’t really cover things like how to use emails to pitch your products.

It didn’t matter..

Because I quickly learned from one of the lessons they offered that I could get a free education just by signing up on some of the more well know newsletter opt in lists.

I did just as they said..

And that’s when the free education began.

I was able to get on a list that I hadn’t heard of before but within one week of receiving their email I knew exactly why insiders said that this was one of the best lists that I could be on.

The name of the newsletter was called bottomline secrets.

You might have heard of them.

They offer a lot of alternative medicines for people suffering from different ailments.

It doesn’t matter if you have any health problems or not..

The important thing is to learn from their email newsletter.

Here is an example of one of their most recent letters…

Notice how the sell their information product..which in this case is a book purchased and sent through the mail.

Prescription Drugs You Should
Avoid Like the Plague — Period.

Doctors should know better. Unfortunately, many don’t — so you need to.

Some drugs are just so bad, you should avoid them at all costs. If your physician won’t prescribe a safer alternative — or let you use a natural remedy — then run (do not walk) to one who will.

In short, you need a copy of prescription alternatives where you’ll discover…

  • Widely used antibiotic so dangerous to your kidneys that up to 28% of those who use it develop some impairment. Make sure your physician monitors your kidney and nerve functions if you take it. Better yet, avoid it altogether. Page 281
  • This former rat poison is now touted as a cure-all for everything from dental problems to bone loss. Banned in Japan and Europe, it’s unavoidable here in the U.S. — unless you read the important precautions on page 433.
  • After surgery, when your liver is under great stress, doctors give huge doses of this usually unnecessary, liver-stressing drug. Just say “no.” Page 54
  • Widely prescribed drug for high blood pressure that is so dangerous, it should be used only as a last-ditch effort if nothing else works for you. Page 138
  • Popular osteoporosis drug is just a rehashed version of an older one that built bone of such poor quality, breaks actually increased. Not to mention side effects such as permanent damage to the esophagus and kidneys, stress, diarrhea, constipation, fever, calcium and vitamin D deficiencies, rashes, headaches, and muscle pain. Page 424
  • If you have IBS, please avoid the commonly prescribed drug on page 175. Although back on the market, it was recalled because it can cause life-threatening constipation, or cut off blood flow to your large intestine — which must then be removed.

The Easiest Way on Earth to Lower Your Blood Pressure

Chinese physicians have long used celery to dependably reduce blood pressure.

Now scientists have discovered exactly why it works so well. Celery contains a unique oil that relaxes the muscles that regulate blood pressure, improving flow, and lowering pressure. Just 4 stalks a day (or some celery juice) does the trick.

In prescription alternatives you’ll see that high blood pressure is one of the easiest problems to treat with simple and safe natural remedies. If you want to avoid the side effects many people experience with high blood pressure drugs, Dr. Mindell tells you what you need to know.

For example…

  • Drug companies and physicians will tell you the side effects of these high blood pressure drugs are “mild.” Yet they have been known to cause depression and have other serious consequences. See page 122.
  • Drugs for high blood pressure that can actually cause congestive heart failure, heart attacks, and strokes. Page 123
  • Two high blood pressure drugs with a frightening side effect: Missing a single dose (which most people do now and then) can kill you. Pages 132-133
  • The water cure for high blood pressure. Safe. Simple. Easy. On page 140.
  • Why a doctor must prescribe blood pressure medication — even if you’re only slightly above normal. Page 112

And to protect your heart, knowledge is your most important weapon: You need to know how different heart drugs work… their side effects… how to protect yourself if you take them… and if there are any prescription or natural alternatives that may be better for you.

  • Cholesterol-lowering drugs that actually increase your chances of a heart attack. Full story on page 94.
  • If you have a heart attack, request a megadose of this heart-rescuing mineral immediately. Page 95
  • This tea lowers your bad cholesterol and triglycerides, raises good cholesterol, and makes blood less prone to deadly clots. Page 99
  • Four diseases that can cause false high cholesterol readings (and heart disease isn’t one of them). Page 142
  • Two huge studies verify that the vitamin on page 99 slashes heart disease risk by 40%. Yet most seniors get less than even the puny “recommended daily allowance.”
  • Pills that combine different types of heart drugs may seem like a good idea — but page 103 reveals why you should avoid them like the plague.
  • Why eating meat probably won’t raise your cholesterol levels. Get the facts on page 144.
  • The dangers of using aspirin to prevent heart disease. Instead, Dr. Mindell describes 2 natural supplements that will do your heart a world of good — without aspirin’s risk of a bleeding ulcer. Page 250

In part 2 I’ll go over what makes this email so powerful.

What To Do When Your Offer To Your Opt In List Hits On Deaf Ears

Posted on June 30, 2007. Filed under: Opt in email marketing |

Getting your subscribers to respond to your offer

Or getting them to send for more information isn’t that hard when you understand one simple thing.

You need to motivate the person that’s sitting at home who’s not looking for anything in particular that relates to your offer to actually do what you want them to.

I’ll admit….

I’m lazy.

Sometimes I actually prefer to take the easier way out because it promises to save me time.

Or it promises to save me money.

And because I could use that money for other things that could…

You guessed it..

Save me more time or more money…

I’ll then choose the shortcut.

So sometimes I need to motivate myself.

Or better yet..

When someone else motivates me..

Then the wheels of action really get to spinning.

But how do you motivate the person who lacks their own self motivation?

Well, one easy way that you’ll see motivational speakers and pastors in the church use is to make you part of a bigger picture.

we’re social creatures.

So when we have a chance to join in or be a part of something much bigger or much larger than what we could accomplish on our own…

we’ll then be motivated to act.

“we’re going to build an exclusive gold card membership, where everyone that becomes a member will have access to the tools and coaching that their fellow billionaires club members have.

You won’t be out their trying to make a living by yourself.

You’ll have the backing of over 100 of the most successful business minds in this industry right at your finger tips. Ready to answer your questions.

5 years from now when the men and women who were taught what you’re learning right now come back..

When you see how successful they were compared to the people who chose not to be a part of this group…

You’ll be amazed at how you were a part of that. You made it all possible because right here and right now you made the decision to say yes”

I just made that up of course…

But you get the idea.

When you can show them that by doing what you ask them

That they will be a part of something much more than what they are currently involved in..

Then you can achieve higher levels of motivation.

That’s all for now

When You Send An Offer To Your Opt In List, Your Number Of Opt Outs Shouldn’t Go Up

Posted on June 29, 2007. Filed under: Opt in email marketing |

How many new subscribers have you had to opt out of your list this week?

How many for the month?

What I’m going to reveal to you here is a simple way to decrease your total number of opt outs and can actually increase the number of people who say Yes to your offer.

How many times have you created an offer that you knew your readers could benefit from.

Sent them the offer and instead of the number of sales increasing,

Your opt outs actually shot up.

well here is a tip that can actually reverse that for you and increase your retention.

This tip works really well if you’re selling a subscription based product or service…

You can offer your subscribers both old and new a certificate.

However..this won’t be any certificate.

This certificate is the kind that they will love.

Because your certificate is redeemable for cash upon renewal.

Everybody loves cash.

And the life time value of the customer is worth more than the one time cash payment upfront from you.

You’ll see far fewer opt outs and far more renewals when you use the sipmle tip.

That’s all for now.
